Booking arrangements vary between mountain huts, hotels, guesthouses, campgrounds and other permitted camping options. Here are answers to the most common questions about securing accommodation in the Bernese Oberland.

Are Bernese Oberland bookings open?

Some accommodation may already be accepting reservations, while other providers may not yet have opened bookings for your selected hiking season.

The current booking-status section near the top of this page shows the latest position across the 154 accommodation providers monitored by The Hiking Club.

Does “accepting bookings” mean rooms are available?

No. It means that the property’s reservation channel is currently open. Availability will still depend on your dates, group size and preferred room type.

Does “not yet accepting bookings” mean it is sold out?

No. It generally means that reservations have not opened for the selected hiking season or that the provider’s current booking position is still awaiting confirmation.

When does Bernese Oberland accommodation open?

There is no single opening date for accommodation across the Bernese Oberland. Mountain huts, hotels, guesthouses and campgrounds release accommodation progressively and use different booking systems.

The main booking window generally runs from 1 October until the end of January, although individual properties may open earlier or later.

The Hiking Club monitors these openings and provides first-to-know alerts for the accommodation connected to your itinerary.

Is it too late to plan my Bernese Oberland hike?

No. The Bernese Oberland has a wide variety of accommodation on and near its hiking routes, including mountain huts, hotels, guesthouses and campgrounds.

If your first-choice properties are unavailable, you can often create a workable itinerary by adjusting your dates, daily stages, overnight locations, accommodation types or route options.

What if one night of my itinerary is unavailable?

Changing one overnight location can affect the hiking stages before and after it. Check your complete itinerary before confirming your reservations.

Which accommodation types can I include?

Depending on your route, your itinerary may include mountain huts, mountain hotels, village hotels, guesthouses, campgrounds and permitted bivouac locations where local rules allow.

Available room types can include dormitory beds, private rooms and hotel rooms. The available options vary considerably between high mountain locations and the larger villages in the region.
