A responsible choice

The TMB does not have to work at any cost

If a continuous TMB itinerary is no longer available, avoid forcing it together with repeated transfers and off-trail stays. Adjusting your dates—or choosing a quieter Alpine trail—may create a better experience.

01

Protect the spirit of the journey

Aim for a connected, mostly on-foot itinerary that respects the trail and its mountain communities.

02

Consider a quieter alternative

Nearby trails offer outstanding scenery, memorable hut stays and often greater accommodation availability.

Tour du Mont Blanc accommodation FAQs

What hikers need to know about booking accommodation

Booking arrangements vary between mountain refuges, hotels, guesthouses and campgrounds. Here are the answers to the most common questions.

Are Tour du Mont Blanc bookings open?

Some accommodation may already be accepting bookings, while other properties have not yet opened. The live status near the top of this page shows the current position across the trail.

Does “accepting bookings” mean rooms are available?

No. It means that the property’s reservation channel is open. Availability will still depend on your dates, group size and preferred room type.

Does “not yet accepting bookings” mean it is sold out?

No. It means that bookings have not opened or that the property’s current booking position has not yet been confirmed.

When does Tour du Mont Blanc accommodation open?

There is no single opening date for the entire trail. Mountain refuges, hotels, guesthouses and campgrounds release accommodation progressively and use different booking systems.

The Hiking Club monitors these openings and provides first-to-know alerts for the accommodation in your itinerary.

Is it too late to plan my Tour du Mont Blanc?

No. There are 200+ accommodation options along the Tour du Mont Blanc, including mountain huts, hotels and guesthouses. It is possible to find accommodation for each night of your trip, however you may need to use public transport to shorten the route, or have shorter/longer hiking days to reach a property with availability. A different start date, walking direction, daily stage or accommodation type may create a workable itinerary even when your original preference is unavailable.

What if one night of my itinerary is unavailable?

Compare nearby accommodation, adjust the relevant stage, consider a different accommodation type or set a cancellation alert for your preferred property.

Which accommodation types can I plan around?

Depending on the location, your itinerary may include mountain refuges, hotels and guesthouses, campgrounds and permitted bivouac locations.

Does Expert Access guarantee accommodation?

No it cannot guarantee specific accommodation on specific dates. Expert Access helps you identify a possible itinerary based on accommodation availability and your hiking ability.

Can I start planning a future hiking season?

Yes. You can start building and comparing itinerary options before all accommodation for your hiking season has opened.
